The result of the development of ski tourism (off-piste skiing) in combination with inappropriate snow and climatic conditions is the increasing number of snow avalanches. Moreover, dangerous avalanches occur also in the areas where they have never been registered before.

Unfortunately, casualties have been registered, too. The use of GIS tools for the modelling of slope movements (including avalanches) has shown quite a great progress.

The evidence of this is the development of many modelling tools aimed on the simulation and prediction of movements down a slope. First part of the study is focused on the modeling of avalanche release zones, where the probability of avalanche trigging is the highest.

In the second part of the study, RAMMS model was used at the modellation of avalanche paths and avalanche depositions in the specific region of the Moravskosliezské Beskydy Mountains.
