Abstract

The paper focuses on the various aspects of employee participation (economic democracy) which is presented as one of the alternative approaches to both current corporate capitalism and to state paternalism. The major points of criticism against the concept as well as the answers to this criticism are highlighted.

The author briefly presents the concept of economic democracy according to D. Schweickart and R.

A. Dahl.

J. Rawls' property-owning democracy model is also presented.

Part of the author's attention is paid to the co-operatives and social economy model of G. Korimová.

The concept of employee participation is embedded within the broader framework of participatory democracy; this type of democracy draws massive attention not only in the field of theory but also in political practice.
