Abstract

The study deals with the history of the manuscript of so called Washington Declaration. Its first, handwritten version was in the posession of T.

G. Masarykʼs secretary Jaroslav Císař.

After the communist coup in 1948 he succeed to carry the document to Scotland and later to the USA, where it was deposed in the Library of Congress. Císařʼs wish was to bring the manuscript back to Prague after the change of the regime.

His will was fulfilled in 1991, when the original of Washington declaration was handed over by American congressmen to president Václav Havel.
