Bronze figurines from Němčice nad Hanou and Celtic art

Abstract

Němčice nad Hanou figurines represent mainly worshippers, human legs, birds and animals; their simple style resembles earlier Hallstatt and later Germanic figurative idioms. In Early La Tène local schools can be distinguished, developed on courts of local princes similarly as in Middle La Tène, while the Late style follows a parallel tendency in the Mediterranean leading from rich to simpler shapes with reduced inner structure and firmer outline.

Regional traditions may have been part of local memory transmitted by surviving samples.
