Amplification detection of mRNA of CK19 in lymph nodes and comparing the results with standard techniques

Publication

Abstract

Detection of tumor cells in lymph nodes in patients with primary or secondary lung tumors is currently limited by the capabilities of standard histopathological methods. Progress of cancer disease in some patients suggests that micrometastases may not be in histologic examination revealed and underestimation pTNM staging disease leads to difficulty in precise administration of adjuvant cancer treatment.

We compaired sensitivity of detection of micrometastases in the hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes primary (non-small cell) and secondary (metastatic colorectal cancer and breast cancer), lung cancer by immunohistochemistry method and OSNA. The basis of the OSNA method is isothermal amplification Osna cytokeratin 19 mRNA in lymph nodes, as a marker of tumor cells.

OSNA method allow to detect higher percentage of micrometastases in compare to standard histological examination. This should lead to more accurate staging of cancer.
