Idiopathic thrombosis

Abstract

In February 1998 was admitted to the district hospital 50 y. Caucasian male (K.D., born 1948) with swelling of the left extremity and sense of a short breath after minimal effort.

He had these symptoms in the last 4 days. Ultrasound revealed femoropopliteal deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism was found in angioCT scanning.

Family history of venous thromboembolism (VTE) was negative and also personal history was negative yet. He was treated with arterial hypertension and hypercholesterolemia.

He has never been exposed to the risk situation of thrombosis yet (surgery, immobilization of the low extremity etc.). Internal physical examination was in concordance with pulmonary embolism (heart rate 104/min, attenuation of the 2nd heart sound, blood pressure was 95/60 mmHg, swelling of the left extremity.
