Abstract

Overactive bladder symptoms are one of the most common health problems in adult population. They have a negative influence on professional and social life and partner relationships as well.

According to the definition of the International Continence Society, OAB is a syndrome suggestive of lower urinary tract dysfunction, with symptoms of urgency, with or without incontinence, usually with frequency and nocturia. According to recent studies, the prevalence of this disorder in Europe and the USA is 15-17%, the prevalence increases with age and is comparable in both genders.

Especially urge incontinence has a great negative impact on quality of life, and its prevalence is higher in women. Due to high prevalence this disorder becomes a socioeconomic problem.

With increasing awareness towards this condition more individuals seek for medical help. The aim of this article is to summarise actual invasive and noninvasive therapeutic approaches.
