Invasive fungal diseases are serious and life-threatening infectious complications in patients with haematological malignancies. Due to the need of early administration of antifungals, empirical antifungal therapy is considered to be the standard strategy, when tha antifungal drug is given tothe patients with unresponsive fever despite broad spectrum antibiotic therapy.
Newer approach in strategy is pre-emptive antifungal treatment using the modern early diagnostic methots. The recommendations given by Czech and Slovak experts are evidence-based; they reflect European consensus (ECIL) as well as previous guidelines of CELLfrom 2010 an were discussed at the annual workshop of the CELL group in Brno in June 2014.
