Abstract
Maps are becoming an increasingly important source of information. Pupils often come across them while surfing the internet or watching television.
The proliferation of maps into various fields calls for an integration of activities requiring work with maps into lessons in subjects other than geography. The introductory article seeks to demonstrate the importance of this integration.
Three follow-up articles will explore use of maps in biology, history and mathematics.
