Abstract

This chapter is dedicated to the evolution of cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). It shows new methods and procedures in the assessment of mild cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD-MCI).

PD-MCI is a newly developed concept that may be a harbinger of dementia in PD. The primary goal of the present analysis is to show the standardized instruments and diagnostic algorithm for the assessment of PD-MCI.

Early diagnostics of PD-MCI may help to preserve quality of life of patients with PD, contribute to a better understanding of family or carers and possibly to lower the costs of care for PD patients in future. The study has a format of journal article to illustrate the standardized methods of PD-MCI assessment.
