Abstract
We have summarized the results of our study 32 cases of scaphoid nonunion treated at the Orthopaedic Department of the Třebíč hospital from 1998 to 2008 using the Matti method - with the Rrusse modification. We have operated on 28 men and 4 women with a mean age of 27.4 years at the time of 8 months to 12 years after the initial accident. 80% of the patients were operated on within 4 years after scaphoid fracture.
All patiens were treated at the regional surgical or orthopaedic clinics and subsequently referred to surgery a tour department. Patients were observed for 1.5 to 11 years after the surgery, with an average duration of treatment being 4.5 months.
We evaluated the results of subjective and objective findings and X-ray findings. Subjectively, good results were achieved in 22 patients (70%), satisfactory in 6 patients (19%) and bad in 4 patients (13%).
Objective finding was assessed as good in 23 patients (73%), fair in 7 patients (22%) and poor in 2 patients (6%). Good dariographic findings were noted in 21 patients (67%), fair in 8 patients (26%) and poor in 3 patients (10%).
Analysis of our study confirms the good results of the treatment of navicular bone nonunion using the Matti method, and specifically its modification by Russe. The majority of patients saw significant omprovement, without instability or carpal collapse and therefore we consider this method if to be eligible and successful in proper indications.
