Abstract

The author muses conviction of many Czech teachers: "Deaf pupils failing in Czech language, because it is a foreign language for them." She points out that teaching foreign languages is a conventional part of educational activities and there is no reason to believe that the Czech Deaf are not able to handle it. She believes, the time to change the current paradigm to the new paradigm has come: "Some of Czech Deaf are the Czech Sign Language users, at the first.

Czech is their second language. Methods of teaching Czech Sign Language must be based on the general principles used in the mother language education.

And Czech language learning must respects methods commonly used in the second/foreign language education. In complying these principles, the Deaf will be successful in Czech."
