Applications of the syntactic valence in the interpretation and corrections of mistakes in the verb patterns in the teaching of Czech as a foreign language

Abstract

The issue of verb phrases in teaching Czech as a foreign language appears to be a linguistic area in which students often make mistakes. This paper summarizes the causes, circumstances and typology of mistakes from the perspective of Russian-speaking students.

The circumstances of the use of wrong verb phrases can be determined by the type of text (written text, speaking), the requirements of teachers and of course students' motivation. Considering the specific causes of contamination can distinguish inter-language verb prepositional phrases, negative transfer from the mother language, confusion between semantically similar verbs or confusion between semantically identical verbs whose meaning is defined by the reflexive particle.

When you are working with a mistake in the verb phrases, you can effectively used valency syntax. Basic principles of valency syntax can be used in two phases of work with the mistake, in its interpretation and correction.

Valency syntax can be further used in the phase fixation correct shape. The paper offers concrete ways to use valency syntax in all the stages of working with a mistake, and opens up the discussion on the possible position of the valency syntax in teaching Czech as a foreign language and foreign language teaching in general.
