Contemporary liberal democracies face to many crisis phenomena: low turnout, instability of governments, oligarchic tendencies in politics, low interest in membership in the political parties etc. One of the possible solutions of this problem is to strengthen the civic participation.
The institute of European citizens' initiative (ECI) could help this at the level of the EU. In the paper, I analyze the instrument of ECI focusing, in particular, on the initiative of unconditional basic income.
