Abstract

Cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS) is a complex of cardiovascular risk factors of metabolic origin, which contribute towards the pathogenesis of ischemic cardiac disease (ICD) and diabetes mellitus type II (DM2). These factors include visceral obesity, glucose intolerace, atherogenic dyslipoproteinemia and arterial hypertension.

These signs which commonly occur concomitantly, and are unlikely to be coincidental probably have a causal connection with insulin resistance. From the initial four signs further risk factors have been described.

These include chronic subclinical inflammation, pro-coagulant state, microalbuminuria and hyperuricemia.
