Coping strategies in chronic pain: construction of the Coping with Pain Inventory (CPI 3)

Abstract

Cognitive processing of pain comprises of pain believes, copin with pain and self-perception changes. Questionnaries and inventories available in present usually consist of items leading to negative (pathological) changes and do not include scales of adequate initial reactions, which support adaptive processes, healing and succasful rehabilitation.

As suggested by health care providers in the field of pain management, initial interpretation and appraisal of pain seem to be important in both, the development of chronic pain state, as well as complete healing or positive dealing with pain. Aim of the presented study is the construction of an original Czech inventory that will provide the questionnaire battery with scales focusing on adaptive coping strategies.
