Methodology for the creation and utilization of historical spatial data in a GIS environment: The administrative boundaries of cadastral areas and urban districts of Prague

Abstract

The aim of this certified methods is to describe the creation of spatial data (administrative boundaries) for each year of the census (population censuses) in the capital city of Prague in the years 1921 to 2011 so that the proposed method can be implemented by this description again in the future. The main purpose of the project is to create NAKI data for the historic boundaries of cadastral districts (and basic settlement units) from population censuses and used them to display historical statistical data structure applicable in the decisive moments of population censuses.

Some of the GIS layers have been created in modern era, and have only been taken from other sources ČÚZK and CSO (1991-2011). Other documents was necessary to search the archives and then cartographically processed.

Workflow and individual activities aimed at creating shp files for use in GIS, an all of them are described in the present methodology.
