Inequality and voluntary activity by people with a disability

Publication |
2015

Abstract

People with a disability are not generally perceived as a group of people which gets involved in voluntary activity. This underestimation of human potential negates the ability of the people who belong to this specific group.

People with a disability have a greater potential to support others than it may seem at first glance. This contribution provides information about volunteers who perform voluntary activity despite their own disability.

In relation to the focus of the publication, the contribution is oriented towards problematic areas which arise among volunteers with a disability, this being both from the point of view of institutions and social settings and also from the point of view of the volunteers themselves. The contribution is supported by the statements of respondents who participated in the survey "Volunteering and the voluntary activity of people with a disability", which is based on positive experience when people with a disability are involved in voluntary activity.
