Freedom of Speech in a Literary Diary in Socialist Czechoslovakia and in a Democratic Society

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2014

Abstract

The main issue of this paper is the problem of unrestricted writing the belles-lettres diary. It compares the possibilities and limits of free and authentic writing in socialist Czechoslovakia of 80ies the 20th century and in a democratic society of the starting 21th century by way of examples Vaculík's Český snář and Viewegh's The Wonderful year.

The basic question is whether the creation arising of different historical conditions and on the grounds of different motivations shows some identical traits, and to which extreme is possible to go from the ethical point of view - particularly with respect to figures from actual world.
