This chapter describes the reception of translated Czech literature based on a German source text in Spain in the years 1939 to 1983. The chapter draws on censors' reports provided by the General Administration Archives in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).

It seeks to arrive at an answer to the following research question: What was the reaction of the Spanish censorship to the Czech literature? The genesis of translations is explained using the following methodological tool - critical discourse analysis based on controversial metatexts (Popovič 1975) or paratexts (Genette 1997), in other words, on censors' reports of following books: Hašek's novel The Good Soldier Švejk and other Czech novels by Ota Filip, Pavel Kohout, Bohumil Hrabal, Jan Procházka and Ota Hofman. The research contributes to the clarification of the Czech-Spanish literary relationship, including the important mediating role of the German language.
