Abstract

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum, which is through to late stages very well treatable. In the Czech Republic it is annually diagnosed about a thousand cases of this disease.

The recommendation was prepared with respect to the specific law legislation in force on our territory, which does not allow the full application of international recommendations. The text contains complete information from how the disease is being acquired, describes the clinical manifestations of the individual stages of the disease, its diagnosis, recommended treatment for immunocompetent and immunocompromised (HIV) patients, dispensary care and last but not least, the current legislation dealing with this issue.
