Abstract
Improving of treatment options for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer is enabled by rapid development of liver surgery, perioperative care, systemic chemotherapy and biological (targeted) treatment up to individualized therapy. Even 20 years ago the presence of liver metastases meant an infaust prognosis, but currently we have such tools, that we are able to cure some patients completely, prolong survival, or improve the quality of life at least.
Basic therapeutic modality with curative potential effect is liver resection. It is necessary to reject skepticism and offer surgical treatment to as many patients as possible.
Complex care for patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases should be centralized at specialized centers with mutlidisciplinary teams of experts (hepatobiliary surgeon, oncologist, radiologist, pathologist, hepatogastroenterologist and others). The authors present an review of the current state of art.
