Puncture wounds of medical personnel during the 10 years

Abstract

The paper analyzes the researches which have been published in the last 10 years. It is the protection of health workers especially in relation to the risks of stab wounds.

The incidence of stab wounds in the Czech Republic ranges between 60-80 %, and the risks are transmitted by blood contagious diseases. Discussion is now in the European countries and has a great impact on the legislation of the EU member states.

The most frequent subject, which causes wounding is a needle and the most common activities are operations associated with the puncture and manipulation of biological material. The highest-risk group of workers are health professionals with experience between 16-20 years.

Departments with the highest incidence of stab injuries are operating rooms with 74,4 % incidence of stab injuries. 64 % of respondents, they are using protective gloves by the correct procedures of peripheral venous cannulation, 70,4 % of them are workers with experience 16-20 years. The basis of good practice will be sufficient awareness and education, whether in undergraduate as well as postgraduate teaching and training staff.
