Malignant schwannoma - a difficult journey to final diagnosis

Abstract

Malignant schwannoma is a highly aggressive type of tumor. Its diagnosis and treatment can be often quite difficult due to its histological variability and rapid disease progression, which can limit the possibility of surgical intervention.

The occurrence of these tumors is frequently linked to neurofibromatosis type 1, where initially benign tumors can undergo malignant transformation much more often. In case of primary tumor spread is the prognosis very poor.
