Abstract
The memoirs by Jan Malkovský (1672-1739) native of Horažďovice were written in Czech language. Jan Malkovský's nephew Matěj Malkovský, called Novohospodský, is the author of a few additions to it.
The work is kept at the Town museum Horažďovice, and belongs to the category heritages of burgher families. The memoirs cover, with a few interruptions, a period of time from 1669 (or 1670) to 1740.
The authors tackled family affairs and also events in Horažďovice and its surroundings. The members of the Malkovský family were in majority butchers.
Due to their wealth, they belonged to the respectable burghers of the subjected town of Horažďovice. They took part at the town's administration, as members of the family frequently got a seat in the town council.
The core of this study is the critical edition of the Malkovský memoirs. These were written at least in ten different stages.
Further chapters are dedicated to the analysis of the text and to biographical sketches of members of the Malkovský family. Editor's notes and a description of the manuscript are obvious parts of this study.
