This article deals with specific questions which were examined within a personal research project aimed at gathering and analyzing information on the requirements for the vacant positions of "product manager". By this interdisciplinary study the authors wanted to contribute to the confirmation of the presupposition that a product manager is a suitable example of a knowledge-based employee in the 21st century.
In order to fulfill this objective the Bernard Berelson's content analysis method and the comparative method were used. Text analysis of recruitment advertisements led to identifying the requirements of professional knowledge and provided information on which level of education and type and length of professional experience are preferred while looking for a product manager.
The findings place emphasis on the importance of university education but at the same time experience and knowledge of professional disciplines with verifiable results. However, professional experience is difficult to verify compared with other presuppositions for succeeding in the role of a product manager, therefore the authors concluded this contribution by giving recommendations for completing the recruitment process and the choice of product managers.
