Abstract
The conference is held under the auspice of CASA - Czech Association for Social Anthropology on September 18 - 19 in Prague. The aim of the conference is to critically reflect on the field of applied anthropology and its presence in public space in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia.
The speakers elaborate on following topics: ethical aspects related to the impact of applied projects, political and ideological background of anthropologists and the negotiation of the position of applied anthropology within the academia, in NGO's as well as in business. We will present examples of applied anthropology in development (gender, health and education projects), in social politics (community work and social exclusion) and participatory activism (the protection of rights of marginalized groups).
The conference is an open platform for meeting students, teachers and applied anthropologists and discussing their practical problems and theoretical dilemas.
