Abstract
Fractures of distal radium are currently considered to be the most common simple fractures. According to recent statistics up to 17 % of population over 60 years suffer this type of injury while its age distribution has been well described.
Our own records confirm these observations. Every year there are approximately 150 patients treated for distal radium fractures at our department; one third of them undergo surgery.
Since 2007 the predominant method of surgery at our department is open reposition and osteosynthesis using LCP splint from volar FCR exposure. Our article will summarize general principles of both surgical and conservative treatment approaches, which, despite being well-known, are not frequently performed.
