Abstract

This study answers the question of what role the idea of homeland played within the Czech National Revival, based on an interpretation of the tragedy Angelina (František Turinský). The concept of an absent homeland represents the drama's main feature.

The analysis deals with the historical context, epoch themes and revival efforts. On the one hand Angelina is a typical drama of the Czech National Revival, but on the other hand it shows motifs, themes and characteristics of Romanticism.
