Abstract
The paper is looking for relations between the animated puppet movie Old Czech Legends (1953) directed by Jiří Trnka and the official approach to national traditions after the communist coup in 1948. Collected and analysed archival materials and contemporary newspaper articles reflect the genesis of the film script, the process of approving by official authorities and also the reception of the film (considering the so called Jirásek Action).
