Abstract
In his presentation, he will introduce modern clinical psychoanalytic models of emotions (traditionally called affects in psychoanalysis) and will show their application in psychotherapy. He will talk about Fonagy's conception of affect regulation and about the connected idea of mentalization (an ability to reflect mental states).
From these concepts, there was created one of the most effective approaches in treatment of people with borderline personality disorder. Moreover, he will describe a theory of affect tolerance which depicts (un)acceptability of some emotions in human experience.
At the end, he will mention practical principles which summarize how psychoanalytic psychotherapy can positively influence experiencing of emotions delineated by an American psychoanalyst Nancy McWilliams.
