Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present a method for mapping the environmental risk associated with ecosystem services provision in the Czech Republic based on a geographic information system (GIS). Among different modelling approaches, the proposed method combines basics from classical multi-hazard/multi-dimensional risk assessments and vulnerability.

The approach is elaborated in respect to recent ecosystem services mapping at the national scale and in respect to important environmental drivers of ecosystems change in the Czech Republic. Results reveal clear spatial disparities in the distribution of hot-spots and cold-spots, based on the differential allocation of selected factors.

The national case indicates that future focus can be improved by the clearer connection of different ecosystem services and their respective drivers of change.
