A group of experts with a long-term experience working in leishmaniasis research comment on findings by Hamad et al about the presence of Leishmania major promastigotes and amastigotes in gorilla feces in southern Cameroon. They argue against these findings based on the fact that no case of cutaneous leishmaniasis has been reported in the stidied region, promastigotesb(the insect forms of the parasite) do not occur in mammalian hosts and the chosem method does not give convincingly clear results.
