In this talk, the author compares the approach of interaction design principles in on-line environments with those in physical environments. In modern cities of the 21st century, electronic systems are inevitably introduced into the physical environment, creating an information and interaction layer for inhabitants to deal with.

The author views this as a new form of vitalism, leading to the ideal state of so called Smart Cities. These modern cities should allow users an efficient navigation and interaction with the environment, but the actual systems are not always following the basic design principles.

Due to this room for improvement in design thinking, the author proposes following Christian Alexander's architectural example for establishing interaction tenets for urban environments. These might become a viable addition to the Prague manual for public spaces (2014).
