Abstract

Kramerius's newspapers represent in the late 18th century a new medium that provides regular information about world news. Readers are acquainted through articles with the habits and behavior of foreign nations and create its own image on them.

Kramerius evaluates some nation positively in the newspaper, to some of them he expresses a feeling of solidarity, or see others as a source of danger. Kramerius in his newspaper actively communicates with his readers, presenting them with a framework of how they should properly behave and what they should read.

This article wants to point out that the view of the new historicism and new cultural history to Kramerius's newspaper open up new possibilities for interpreting the early stage of national revival, which has been in so far understood by Czech historiography in accordance with the traditional ethnic view of nation and nationalism as objectively created entities. Kramerius's newspaper, however, creates a unique space for analyzing the presentation of common interests and goals as everyday construction of community.

However, this community do not have any fixed objective structure, on the contrary, is objectified through mutual communication, which search for such topics as common myths or collective memory.
