The contribution presents the metadata formation, digitisation but above all making the special cartographic documents of the Faculty of Science in Prague available within the TEMAP project (2011-2015). New methodologies reflecting cataloguing rules Resource Description and Access (RDA) for a description of cartographic documents and for old prints, atlases and manuscripts were created.
Bibliographic records that are formed in the Charles University Central Catalogue in Prague and exported into Union Catalogue of the Czech Republic make the foundations for the creation of descriptive metadata of digitized maps. Digital archive and user copies are taken, in accordance with the copyright law, on a certified flatbed scanner in the highest accuracy.
The possibilities to scan globes were tested. Different types of descriptive and technical metadata are worked with.
There was established a methodology for automated formation of metadata for cartographic documents. The maps are made available through Digital University Repository of Charles University in Prague.
Web presentations are reflected in portals with different types of search - Map collection, Karel Kuchař, Old maps and Oldmaps Online. Publication does not mean the end of the work with maps.
Cartographic measurements continue or there is a competition in georeferencing. E-learning courses are also prepared. 50,000 bibliographic records have been done within the project by mid 2015. 48,000 maps, 91 atlases and 10 globes were digitized and made available.
There are another 11,000 maps every year.
