Use of anthroponyms in Cuban Spanish

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2015

Abstract

This paper focuses on the use of personal names for the denotation of different concepts in the Cuban variety of Spanish. The analysis will be primarily related to lexies obtained by improper derivation, being this means of lexical creation the most common one at a colloquial level of speech.

Towards the end of the paper, attention will be briefly paid to some terms obtained by proper derivation, more representative of a formal level of speech. The cases described are illustrated with entries taken from a lexicographical work of personal authorship.
