International Organizations : Systems of Cooperation Among States

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |
2015

Abstract

This book seeks to contribute to the strengthening and deepening of the knowledge about international organizations (IOs) in the Czech academic and broader public sphere. It aims at providing a complex analysis of an IO as a general phenomenon and analyzing several selected IOs.

The book involves both a theoretical, mainly conceptual, analysis and an empirical analysis. The theoretical analysis relies on the existing generally-oriented literature on IOs, rational choice institutionalism and systems theory.

In this way, it conceives of an IO as a relatively complex and coherent system of interstate cooperation. The empirical part of the book mainly consists of three case studies dealing with three of the contemporary main IOs, namely the Organization of the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and International Monetary Fund.
