Abstract

Ukrainians and Ruthenians living on the territory of socialist Yugoslavia dealt with their separate problems. The former was faced with uncertain policies of the Yugoslav state towards them, which stemmed from ideological policy shift.

The latter dealt with the construction of their own identity and building an internally coherent community. For both minorities, the second half of socialist Yugoslavia's existence wasn't marked by any major conflicts with the state and their members remained on its territory even after the break-up in 1991.
