Abstract

In the view of Tito's administration the Italian minority in socialist Yugoslavia was connected to one of the former occupying forces during the WWII. Thus after the war it became a target of regime's repressions which lead to massive emigration of its members.

Similarly as in the case of Hungarians, the state policy towards the Italian minority gradually improved and contributed to the positive development of relations between Italy and Yugoslavia. As a result from the 1970s onwards the Italians in the socialist Yugoslavia could fully benefit from their minority status.
