Long-term follow-up of breast cancer patients after treatment

Abstract

In the Czech Republic 7076 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in 2011 (132 per 100,000 women). The majority of these patients will achieve long-term complete remission ("cure") after cancer treatment.

However, they still face the risk of long-term complications caused by cancer therapy as well the recurrence of malignancy. Long-term follow-up of patients with breast cancer is an area of interest not only for oncologists, but also for gynecologists, general practitioners, and surgeons.
