Abstract

This book contributes to a deeper understanding of the process of formation of a new society in the Czech borderlands that is illustrated by the regions of Zábřeh and Šumperk in the years 1945 to 1960. It focuses on the structural aspects of demographic trends after the Second World War and the transformation of communist dictatorship, including its deep crisis from year 1953 to 1956.

In comparison of the dominant discourse and everyday language of actors, the book reveals the fundamental values and images that lead to stabilization or destabilization of the communist rule.
