Abstract

The contribution of this work is to compare security measures employed in four different cities when hosting global sporting events. Beijing, Johannesburg, London and Rio de Janeiro entail a set of specificities due to the local contexts.

At the same time, all the events were marked by a standardization of security measures based on exceptionalism, surveillance, militarization and urban interventions.
