Abstract

The aim of this study is comparison of involvement upper body muscles during double pole by V2 skating technique and double poling of elite cross-country skier (member of the Czech U-23 team). We used the surface electromyographic method (sEMG) to observe critical points of activation and subsequent deactivation selected upper body muscles during one average cycle.

For monitoring of the electrical activity of muscles we used ME6000 equipment. For the analysis we used the program Mega Win, computing system MATLAB version R2012b and our own skripts with algorithms.

Although from kinematical point of view it can seem to be both locomotion similar, from kinesiological point of view not. In this study we found significant differences in timing m. obliquus externus abdominis and m. erector spinae caused obviously by different character of locomotion.

The differences in timing of activation and deactivation main involved muscles (m. latisimus dorsi dx., m. triceps brachii dx., m. rectus abdominis) were not significant.
