Abstract

This paper aims to define geopolitical studies in concrete terms, ascertaining the purpose of the field i.e. the analysis of the influence of geographical setting on states' foreign policy. This objective will be accomplished in two sections: (i) to determine a chain of theoretical cores in geopolitical studies, and (ii) to formulate a group of methodological guidelines in order to operationalize the studies within the discipline.

The foundation of the concept of geomisguidance, to frame Ratzel's concept of Raumsinn in geopolitical studies, to systematize geopolitical studies' literature concerning methodology are several new results from this article.
