Publication at Faculty of Science |
2015

Abstract

A method for digital cliff drawing, used in production of large-scale topographic maps by the Land Survey Office of the Czech Republic, is introduced. This is done with respect to the history of topographic mapping in the Czech Republic and former Czechoslovakia, which influenced contemporary digital processing to a great extent.

The key part of the article deals with a detailed description of rules for this type of digital rock portrayal, illustrated on a variety of examples. The method is based on filling of a polygon with lines that resemble stylized hachures.

Advantages, disadvantages and limits of this approach are also discussed.
