The Letter to the Hebrews

Publication at Catholic Theological Faculty |
2015

Abstract

The Letter to the Hebrews has among the New Testament writings a unique position in many aspects. It is the only book which deals explicitly with the Christ's priesthood of the New covenant and which encourages the believers to a generous faith and perseverance in the time of difficulities.

Its form, style and quality of language defines this writing as an early Christian homily. On the author, recipients and other circumstances of the letter there is a discussion from early times until today, that for the paucity of positive data will probably remain allways open.

The difference of the Letter to the Hebrews from the pauline letters was in early Christian centuries a reason of a reticence regarding its acceptance among the canonical books. The commentary focuses on linguistic and literary characteristics of the Letter to the Hebrews and explains its theological argumentation.
