Philological study of German language - the profile of candidates in the light of entry examinations

Abstract

The paper presents results of entry examinations at the Department of German Language Studies, philological branch, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, over two years (2013-2014). The paper aims at pointing out discrepancies between methods and goals of foreign language teaching at high schools and the requirements of educated study of language and culture (i. e. philology) at university level.

The paper concludes with some recommendations for next candidates of these studies and other persons concerned.
