Abstract

In this case study we observed the serve toss in different types of serve. Players can use different types of serve (flat serve, slice serve, kick serve) and can use various ball placement in opponent's service box.

Our aim was to compare the serve toss among different types of the serve between a male and female player form the receiver's view. One male and one female professional tennis player took part in this study.

They served different types of the serve to various locations of opponent's service box. We use high-speed camera, which was placed opposite to the server in position of receiving player.

The results revealed players used different toss for the kick serve compared to the other types of first serve; toss used for the second serve to ""T line"" was different to the toss of the second serve ""wide"". Both players reached the same toss characteristics especially on the horizontal axis.

The receiving players can anticipate, in some cases, the type of the serves and the serve direction. The coaches and teachers in the tennis education and practice should force and teach the advanced tennis players to use the same for every serve.
