Abstract
This book provides a summary of the main directions of environmental research. Environmental research is closely connected with ecology, which explores how living organism interact with the environment.
The scope of evironmental science, however, goes far beyond this. It is closely related to earth sciences in that it tries to understand the complexity and functioning of the energy metabolism and biochemical cycles on our planet.
